About the role
SkyNRG is a global leader in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Since 2010, the company has been scaling up SAF demand and production capacity for the industry to meet its 2050 net zero commitment. To date, SkyNRG has supplied SAF to over 40 airlines across the world and is now developing dedicated production facilities to support the shift from fossil jet fuel to sustainable aviation fuel. As a certified B Corp™ SkyNRG prioritizes producing the most responsible and sustainable SAF worldwide. Recognized as a sustainability leader, it maintains an independent Sustainability Board, which advises the company on feedstocks and provides strategic guidance on wide-ranging sustainability issues. SkyNRG’s operations are certified by RSB and CORSIA.
In November 2023 Macquarie Asset Management announced its 175 M€ investment in SkyNRG, enabling our further growth in the SAF industry. In May 2025 APG, the investment arm of pension fund ABP, invested 250 M€ as part of an investment round of 300 M€. This investment allows SkyNRG to move forward with its plans to develop and construct SAF production facilities in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, as well as in Sweden (Project SkyKraft) and the United States (Project Wigeon).Project SkyKraft is a 120kta facility that will produce eSAF from renewable power and captured CO2. This project is a joint venture between SkyNRG and Skellefteå Kraft, a top 5 Swedish power utility.
As the Project Director, you will be responsible for leading the overall management and implementation of the project throughout the Define (FEED) and Execute (EPC) phases. You will oversee all technical aspects of the project lifecycle, from permitting to engineering, procurement, and construction, ensuring alignment with budget, schedule, and safety standards. You will lead a small Owner's team of project professionals and specialists supported by a Project Management Contractor (PMC). Engineering, procurement, and construction, shall be undertaken by recognised EPC Contractors with the necessary competencies and capability needed to execute the work.
The position will initially be based in Amsterdam, but can also be executed from Sweden and requires flexibility (and eligibility) to travel and work in Skellefteå, Sweden and in our Amsterdam HQ.
The Project Director's responsibilities generally include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Member of the SkyKraft Executive Management Team with necessary technical and financial authorities to manage the Project.
- Overall responsibility for management of the Define (FEED) and Execute (EPC) and Pre-commissioning phase of the Project following the agreed business and project objectives and milestones.
- Build, establish and develop an Owner’s Project Management Team (PMT) supported by a PMC to monitor, manage, and facilitate the overall execution of the Project.
- Responsible for implementation of Project Management System, including organization and procedures to effectively manage and direct both PMC and EPC Contractors
- Manage the interface and information reporting to the parent company, shareholders, our JV partner Skellefteå Kraft, and investors as required.
- Establish and implement HSE Policies consistent and aligned with recognised industry practices and demonstrate leadership commitment to HSE in all aspects of the role.
- Accountable for maintaining the integrity of the design concept. This includes the establishment of commercial and technical management systems to protect the business drivers behind the design and be sensitive to the legitimate needs of both internal and external customers and stakeholders.
- Accountable for delivery within the agreed budget and schedule.
- Contract Owner for the FEED, PMC and EPC contracts as well as the license agreements and Electrolyzer OEM contract.
- Management of the implementation of the project following regulatory approvals (e.g., Environmental, Construction and Operating permits) and ensuring availability to meet the project schedule requirements.
- Promote, support and implement the ‘project related’ elements of the Operational Readiness Plan up to and including commissioning and start-up.
- Manage 3rd party interfaces that potentially influence or impact the successful implementation of the Project.
- Establish project management and assurance to ensure overall delivery by the following:
- Project Execution Plan.
- Risk Management System.
- Change Management System.
- Quality Management System.
- Interface Management and Stakeholder Management Plans; and
- Budget estimate and overall project schedule.
- Manage 3rd party interfaces that potentially influence or impact the successful implementation of the Project.
Your profile
You are an accomplished project management professional with a demonstrated track record in successfully implementing complex major projects. Holding a bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering and boasting over twenty years of relevant experience at a project executive management level, you bring substantial expertise to the table. Your executive leadership qualities are complemented by excellent interpersonal skills, allowing you to thrive in a complex environment with minimal direct supervision. Your 'hands-on' mentality is evident as you actively contribute to the growth and expansion of our business in a rapidly developing industry.
Must Haves
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, or equivalent).
- 20+ years of experience in large-scale industrial or infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 5–7 years in executive project leadership roles (e.g., EPC, energy, fuels, or industrial facilities).
- Experience in the oil & gas industry or renewable fuels (biofuels, eSAF, etc) sector.
- Proven success in managing complex projects (exceeding €1 billion in investment).
- Strong background in contracting, regulatory permitting, and technical leadership.
- Skilled in building and managing multidisciplinary teams and working with third-party contractors and partners.
- Comfortable in dynamic and fast-evolving environments with minimal structure.
- Fluent in English; with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Eligible to work in both Sweden and the Netherlands.

- Advanced degree (e.g., MSc, MBA).
- Professional certifications (PMP, PE, etc.).
- Proficiency in Swedish is a plus.
- Background working in scale-up or fast-growth organizations.
- Passion for sustainability and climate innovation.
- Adaptive, pragmatic, and resilient in the face of complexity and uncertainty.
